Wiki­tongue: every lan­guage for every­body. For free.

If this pro­jects works, the fu­ture looks gloomy for lan­guage schools. The founders of Wiki­tongue hope to doc­u­ment the world's 7,000 lan­guages. They ask in­di­vid­u­als to con­tribute videos of them­selves speak­ing in their own lan­guage – from Ger­man to Swahili. The whole thing is mostly or­gan­ised through its Youtube ac­count. Any­one can up­load videos on their own, mak­ing this a crowd­sourced pro­ject – as well as func­tio­n­iong as a non-profit or­gan­i­sa­tion

Ac­cord­ing to re­search pub­lished in Pro­ceed­ings of the Na­tional Acad­emy of Sci­ences, Eu­ro­pean hu­mans have be­come “whiter” in the past 5,000 years, un­der­go­ing a dis­tinct change in their DNA due to nat­ural se­lec­tion. We all want to be more tanned, but na­ture seems to have other ideas.
