Mykhailo Grushevsky called him “Cossack on the throne”. Svyatoslav was a wise, visionary politician, a brave soldier, noble person. “I come to you”, meaning I come to you with war. The knight warned enemies that he would fight with them.
The last events in social life have really restored our spirit and invincibility. We have genetically felt our true history, but not the one that imperialistic historians re-wrote for us million times. We get back dignity and spirit of those knights, on whose shoulders Ukrainian state rose. Today the Anthem of Ukraine became the expression of personal dignity. In its full version, authors Pavlo Chubynsky and Mykhailo Verbitsky, expressed the true history of our centuries of statehood.
We’ll stand, brothers, in the bloody fight from Syan to Don,
We won’t let anyone to master our native land;
The Black sea will smile again, grandpa Dnieper will merry
Yet in our Ukraine the destiny will flourish again!
These anthem’s words remind us of the most prominent state creator of Kyiv Rus times – of Svyatoslav the Brave. Mykhailo Grushevsky called him “Cossack on the throne”. Svyatoslav was a wise, visionary politician, a brave soldier, noble person. “I come to you”, meaning I come to you with war. The knight warned enemies that he would fight with them.
Svyatoslav kept fighting along all his sway, protecting native land and Slavic tribes from kahanat (the state of moving turks) and other wild tribes. By the way, it is necessary to mention that modern land of Russia in the estuaries of Don, Oka and Volga rivers back then was under kahanat of wild cruel khozars tribes , which mercilessly fought against the Slavic tribes. In 965 Svyatoslav the Brave liberated those lands from wild khozars, and local tribes asked him to take them “under the umbrella” of Kyiv knight Svyatoslav, highly evaluating his justice of the ruler.
During his short life, Svyatoslav united all Slavic tribes around Kyiv into the great state. The name of Svyatoslav was famous in Europe and Eastern Asia. Even those ambitious rulers of Byzantium recognized him as the braves and the wisest among the then commander. He protected the boundaries of his state and at the first time in history made the Volga’s trading path “of the Vikings to the Greeks” safe, by taking it under his control.
Svyatoslav died near Dnieper riffle, where the Zaporizhska Sich rose later on. The cossacs adopted spirit, glory and military skills of Svyatoslav the Brave.
