Sergey Dvortsevoy’s Tulpan received the top award at the 5th Reykjavik International Film Festival (RIFF), the Golden Puffin, during Saturday’s award ceremony, which took place in the whale watching ship Aegisgardur.

The jury presided by Baltasar Kormákur described the film as “a charming, straightforward story told with humor and warmth, a story close to the heart despite coming from a culture very different from that of Iceland.” The jury praised especially the beautiful cinematography and the convincing acting.

Other films that were rewarded include the Swiss-French-Belgian co-production Home by Ursula Meier (FIPRESCI Award), Snow [making of] (Bosnia-Herzegovina) by Aida Begic (Church of Iceland Award) and Icelandic music documentary Electronica Reykjavik by Arnar Jónasson, produced by Zik Zak Filmworks (Audience Award).

This year’s festival attracted some 500 international guests, including approximately 50 directors and producers.
