Shopping with body parts

Published on

March is not a great time to go shopping: the post-Christmas sales are over and shopkeepers start getting serious. Yet expensive items do not necessarily need to be paid with cash. In Italy you can pay for something with just one eye from your head (costa un occhio della testa) which is the same price in Catalonia, only the eye comes straight from your face (costa un ull de la cara). In France you pay double (cela coûte les yeux de la tête). In Spain you will still be able to see and admire your purchases, but only from a hospital bed as you will have paid with one of your kidneys (cuesta un riñón). The UK is more expensive still as you pay an arm and leg for something really splendid, but at least your family can help you recuperate, unlike in Bulgaria. There, you have to hand over your mother and father (struva maika si i bashta si – or ) for expensive items; so it’s probably better to go shopping in Russia. Here things are precious as memories (dorog kak pamiat or ), which might cost your imagination, but lot less painful way, to shop.
