Motovun celebrates Russia

The Motovun Film Festival's 10th edition (Jul 28-Aug 1) coincides with 100 years of Russian film and therefore this year's Partner Country of the lauded Croatian event will be the largest nation in the world.
The anniversary was first marked by a week of Russian film in Zagreb (Jul 5-11), during which the ten most significant works since 1990 were presented.
In Motovun, the programme will be dedicated to classics such as Vladimir Romashkov's Stenka, Sergei Eisenstein's Strike, Andrei Tarkovsky's Ivan's Childhood and Aleksei German's My Friend Ivan Lapshin.
Of the 30 films vying for this year's Motovun Propeller Award (the best film in main programme) and "A to A" award (for the best film from the region spanning Austria to Albania), European titles include Gerardo Olivares' 14 Kilometers (Spain), Zrinko Ogresta's Behind the Glass (Croatia), Petri Kotwica's Black Ice (Finland/Germany), Radu Muntean's Boogie (Romania), Jan Bonny's Counterparts (Germany), Metod Pevec's Estrellita (Slovenia/Germany), James Marsh's Man on Wire (UK), Anna Melikyan's Mermaid (Russia), Ivo Trajkov's Movie (Czech Republic/Macedonia), John Carney's Once (Ireland), Mahmoud al Massad's Recycle (Jordan/Germany/Netherlands), Gotz Spielmann's Revanche (Austria), Carlos Reygadas' Silent Light (Mexico/France/Netherlands), Uros Stojanovic's Tears For Sale (Serbia), Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Three Monkeys (France/Turkey), Goran Markovic's The Tour (Serbia/Bosnia And Herzegovina/Croatia) and Stephen Walker's Young @ Heart (UK).
