Meeting the Bedouin

Published on

Egypt, summer 2006

This is a photo of a Bedouin girl who approached our 4x4 in the deserts of western Egypt. I'm told their dresses are supposed to resemble those worn by European women when France was present in Egypt a few hundred years ago. Depending on who you meet, Bedouins might accept being photographed while others refuse, most likely out of a desire not to have anything to do with outsiders. When this girl and her friends came out to investigate our 4x4 I ran to get my camera and snapped a few shots before they noticed me.
