King Albert II accepted the resignation of the Belgian government. This decision comes after a day of doubt. This weekend, the Vice Prime Minister Didier Reynders (Francophone liberal) had been instructed to ensure that conditions be met before negotiations can resume. This Monday, April 26 he announced he had completed its mission, but the CD&V and the Open VLD do not agree reported the VRT.

In late afternoon, Didier Reynders was relieved of his royal mission and Yves Leterme visited the king. According to the Prime Minister the blockage is total. The Palace has now issued a news release announcing that the king accepted the resignation of the government. Last week the date Sunday, June 6 was designated as the probable date for early elections. However, no other Royal initiative has been taken and the Royal Palace could set up an emergency government. Belgium should take the EU's rotating presidency on July 1.
