On Wednesday, 10 September 2008, from 16.00 to 17.00, Governor of the Bank of Finland ERKKI LIIKANEN delivers a public lecture Euro's tenth anniversary: time to reflect in the Independence Hall of Eesti Pank. The lecture is part of the lecture series dedicated to the memory of Professor Ragnar Nurkse.
The hour-long lecture by the internationally experienced Governor of
the Bank of Finland looks back at the nearly ten years of using the
euro. Erkki Liikanen has been Governor of the Bank of Finland since
2004. His previous posts include Member of the European Commission,
where he worked nearly ten years, Head of the Finnish Mission to the
European Union and Minister of Finance for Finland. Liikanen is also
Member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank and
Governor of the International Monetary Fund for Finland. Eesti
Pank started the annual lecture series dedicated to the globally
renowned Estonian economist Ragnar Nurkse in 2007. The previous lecture
was delivered by the European Commissioner Siim Kallas at the
conference dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Estonian kroon on
23 May 2007. Eesti Pank's objective in organising the lecture series is
to provide room for interesting discoveries and new arguments helping
realise the challenges facing both the international and the Estonian
economy. The lecture is in English and free of charge. The lecture is followed by a short reception.

research on issues related to international economy, international
finance and development economics and became globally recognised in the
1940s and 1950s. His publications on topics regarding international
capital flows, finance, economy and economic development are just as
