At the 19th Dinard British Film Festival (see news) top honours went to John Crowley’s Boy A [trailer] (see news from Panorama section at the Berlinale).

In the Breton seaside resort, the second feature by the director who first came to attention with Intermission (2003) scooped the Golden Hitchcock for Best Film and the Best Screenplay Award (Boy A was written by Mark O’Rowe and based on a novel by Jonathan Trigell). Both prizes were presented by the jury headed by Lambert Wilson.

The film also picked up the Silver Hitchcock Audience Award and the White Hitchcock for Best Cinematography (DoP: Rob Hardy).

Produced by Lynn Horsfor for Cuba Pictures with backing from Channel 4, Boy A stars Andrew Garfield, Peter Mullan, Katie Lyons and Shaun Evan. The title will be released in French theatres on March 11, 2009 (Pyramide) and in Dutch theatres on November 13, 2008.

Steve McQueen’s outstanding film, Hunger (winner of the Camera d’Or at the latest Cannes Festival, see news - to be launched by MK2 on November 26) – which screened out of competition at Dinard – won the "Coup de Coeur" Award, presented by the La Règle du Jeu association (exhibitors who operate 40 theatres in Western France).

Finally, the British Council Award for Best Student Film went to Claire Burger’s Forbach in the "Fémis – National Film and Television School Competition".
