Belgian government resigned on the eve of its EU presidency

The Cabinet meeting has not lasted more than thirty minutes. Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme departed at once to see King Albert II to present the government's resignation. The King may still refuse it, but it would put the government off balance. Without the Open VLD, it still holds the majority, but not in Flanders: the CD&V would be the only Flemish party in the government.
The current government is composed of French-speaking parties PS, MR, CDH and the Flemish CD & V, since the Open VLD has officially stepped aside.
