10 cities, 10 special city editions of feature reports, 10 local debates: we're kicking off our yearly series of monthly reporting missions to a different city in our Europe-wide network
09 - 12 DECEMBER: BRUSSELS, BELGIUM
WHAT IS IT: This year, we start our monthly editorial series, "Green Europe" aiming to raise consciousness on the environmental crisis. What you'll hear everywhere is something along the lines of: «The disastrous outcomes of the last climate meetings have shown the failure of a global climate change policy. Time is running out».
TO DO WHAT: Is Europe a leader or a loser in green issues? That's the question we will tackle together... Find young and off-the-beat angles and subjects (cafebabel.com likes eco-fashion, organic food, carrot mobs, urban gardening, green city projects - our lifestyle changes with an increasing conscience of the environmental crisis). Comparing this on a pan-European playing field.
Step 2: recruiting you.WANTED: We need three journalists, one video maker and one photographer to join this mission - writing on aforesaid offbeat, environment-related topics with the support of our local host team in Belgium, and attending a local debate held by the team in Brussels.
It's your proposals that will get you noticed for this mission: so _be creative, do some research, flog your idea donkeys to me. Prepare yourself: read the Bruxelles team blog (English, French, Dutch).
Step 3: you on Green Europe on the ground.LOGISTICS: Book your own flights/trains to Brussels: up to 250 euro is reimbursed by cafebabel.com upon return from the trip, along with other travel, food expenses up to 25 euro every day (figures TBC). The team is hosted by the locals in Brussels.
EDITORIAL: the editor in Paris and the team in Brussels will help define your article, find you fixers, interviewees for your time in the city. The written piece is due in strictly one week later, when the relevant linguistic editor in Paris will edit your piece, which will be translated by our volunteer networks, and then published the following month.
