AEGEE Tallinn Celebrated the Day of Languages

of Languages together with International
Club and Philology Associations in Tallinn University
(New Building, Uus-Sadama 5, 3rd
floor). And Cafebabel.com will not miss it for sure!
Since its foundation, AEGEE (European Students' Forum) has been involved in projects related to languages and intercultural learning. Building Language Bridges presents AEGEE-Europe's celebration of the European Day of Languages, which will take place in autumn annually.
By celebrating the European Day of Languages, we would like to promote the rich cultural heritage of Europe and foster mutual understanding among different language communities all over Europe with a special focus on young people. Our project is aimed at motivating the European youth to learn different languages, especially not the very common ones.
By organizing simultaneous language courses and different types of language related events with broad media coverage all over Europe we would like to bring international attention to the importance of language learning and raise awareness among the general public and decision-makers.
On 26th of November AEGEE local antenna in Tallinn (AEGEE-Tallinn) will celebrate European Day of Languages together with International Club and Philology Associations in Tallinn University (New Building, Uus-Sadama 5, 3rd floor). Day starts at 12 o´clock with "living library" and will continue at 14 o´clock with languages courses. There will also be a fair in Tallinn University, where student associations, but also other organizations have a chance to introduce themselves and Cafebabel.com - Estonia will be there to present some of our future activities too!
One language course will be lasting for about 30 min and will contain an introduction to a language and to the culture. Languages courses will be held by ERASMUS students. The idea of the "living library" is to borrow out people as normally you borrow books. There will be "books" who represent a language (for example one can borrow out a "french book" to practise french language or to get to know the culture). There can be also "books" who can tell about their experiences (European Volunteer Service, participating in the Erasmus project etc) or other stories as well. So the idea is that instead of reading a book u can talk to your "book". The "living library" will be opened from 12-14 o'clock and language courses held from 14-17 o'clock.
Information provided in the “Language Fairs” is a first step in learning a new language and will motivate young people to dive further into it. By being multilingual they can understand other cultures better, open up their minds and feel increasingly European, and therefore can participate actively in the European democratic process.
