What do they need in shelters of Lithuania?

We often hear: donate for children’s homes, buy them a new TV, vacuum cleaner or basketball playground! Let’s bring them the things, give away and let them enjoy. At the same time we also would feel better, because of the good job done. No way!
Maybe the feeling is better for short on one’s account, but for a child there is not so much use of the thing. What does the child need?
At this moment children left in foster homes get the message: you are poor, this is why we donate goods for you and solve your financial problems. So what? They will leave the foster home and will not have that support anymore, but still will expect the regret because they were used to that. For a person going to live the independent life is much more important to be creative in your problem solving. Unfortunately it is complicated to form this competence. If you want to do it seriously you need a special trained people. Their service is quite expensive. There is no project targeting this issue in Lithuania. Maybe in future there will be? We will keep you updated. If you will find yourself having a wish to help children from foster homes, please, do not buy another TV. Better go there and have a conversation, show them attention. You will see, that it is most precious for them!
