The City Below, the third feature by Christoph Hochhäusler (This Very Moment, I Am Guilty), which was shown in the Un Certain Regard section at last year’s Cannes Festival, is finally being launched in German theatres by Piffl (even though it was released in France last December).

Produced by Cologne-based Heimatfilm, this cold-looking drama describes the irresistible yet icy adulterous relationship that forms between Svenja (Nicolette Krebitz in an acclaimed performance) and powerful banker Roland Cordes (Robert Hunger-Bühler), under whose orders Svenja’s husband Oliver (Mark Waschke of Buddenbrooks) works.
