Students discover Eldorado at Pesaro

The 44th Pesaro Film Festival ended with triumph for Liew Seng Tat’s Flower in the Pocket. The Malaysian film, a Tiger Award winner at the Rotterdam Film Festival, beat out seven other titles – most of which were not European – for the Lino Miccichè Award.
A Special Mention went to Eldorado by Belgian director Bouli Lanners, winner of the Label Europa Cinemas in the latest Directors’ Fortnight.
The jury called it a “an edgy, decalée comedy, full of emotion and sobriety, feature a group of formidable actors”.
The same films also won over the 11 students asked, for the first time this year, to present the Pesaro Young Cinema Award. The young jury chose Eldorado (which will be released in August in Italy, by Archibald), “for the painstaking psychology of its main characters, the story’s pressing rhythm and the harmony between the music and the images. It is an original reflection on loneliness, made with intelligent and subtle humour”. Special Mention went to Flower in the Pocket.
The Audience Award, chosen from the Cinema in the Square section, went to Arnaud Desplechin’s A Christmas Tale , while the jury of the Amnesty International Film and Human Rights Awards chose Delphine Deloget’s French documentary No London Today.
