Strong competition at the sixth Zagreb Film Festival

The sixth Zagreb Film Festival will be held from Oct 19 to 25. The competition programmes consist of first or second films by their directors, and are separated in three sections: features, documentaries and shorts.
The feature competition consists of 11 films: Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon and Bruno Romy’s Rumba [trailer, film focus], whose previous Iceberg [trailer] won at Zagreb in 2005; festival favourite My Marlon and Brando by Huseyin Karabey; Kenneth Bi's The Drummer; Naghi Nemati’s Those Three; Charlie Kaufman’s directing debut Synecdoche, New York; Rodrigo Pia’s The Desert Inside; Stefan Arsenijevic’s Love and Other Crimes [making of], winner of best director at Wiesbaden and Sofia festivals and audience award at Linz; Ilmar Raag’s The Class [trailer]; and three nominees for the EFA award: Aida Begic’s Snow, the winner of Grand Prix of the Cannes Festival’s Critics’ Week, Christophe van Rompaey’s Moscow, Belgium [trailer] and Javor Gardev’s Zift.
The documentary selection is partly art-oriented, with Serbian As If It Was Once by Dusan Vesic and Sandra Rancic about the Yugoslav cult rock band EKV; US Jackie Reem Salloum’s Slingshot Hip Hop about the first Palestinian hip hop band; and Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami’s Iranian Cyanosis about street art in Iran.
The shorts competition consists of 16 films.
Both juries are consisted of women: Marit Kapla, director of the Goteborg Film Festival, Bosnian director Sejla Kameric and British producer Nadine Luque, will consist the feature and shorts jury. The documentary jury includes Dana Budisavljevic, director and producer, acclaimed Israeli director Avishag Leibovich and Croatian director Sasa Vojkovic.
