Do you think that the calendars you get given by your aunt each christmas are just full of kitsch and clichés? They’re probably not as bad as this one: the Lycee de Kimolos on the Greek island group of Cyclades produces this controversial catalogue of German-themed cartoons for the year 2011. Pupils compiled the images, which are the work of Greek caricaturist Christos Zoidos. News of it circulated on the internet, and whilst the Greeks self-profess caricaturing such matters, there has been no reported reaction from the Germans... (Images © Lycee de Kimolos)

The school calendar kicks off with a dream...

(Greek man dreams:) 'The Germans are back (and they’re not alone)!' The flag says 'IMF' and 'EU', and the nazi sign is adopted into a euro currency sign

November 2010

(Greek man one:) 'So the Germans are back?' (Greek man two:) 'Yes, with a different moustache!'

December 2010

(Greek man on wall:) 'Hey, compatriot! This supervision is rather tight, isn’t it?!' (Greek man in wooden stocks:) 'Just a bit!'

January 2011

(Greek man from window:) 'Hey, Mitso! What does this supervision remind me of…? What does it remind me of…?'

February 2011

(PUBLIC UTILITIES, ORGANISATIONS, MINISTRIES) (Greek woman:) 'Mitso! What is going on?!' (Mitso:) 'Drastic reductions in the public sector!'

March 2011

(German soldier:) 'HIM!!! Another one who is enjoying his coffee!'

April 2011

(German soldier:) 'Well, any Greeks whose last names start with a, b , c, d , e, f, g, h, I, j, k, l , m, n, s, o, p, q, r, t , u , v, w, x, y or z will retire at the age of 85. And in case any of you are thinking of escaping, Schindler’s List is only a movie!'

May 2011

(Greek prisoner:) 'Just one last cigarette!' (German soldier:) 'Are you out of your mind? You know how high taxation on cigarettes is!?'

June 2011

(German soldier:) 'So, dig him, him and him up! Retirement age has gone up again!'

July 2011

(Little girl:) 'Daddy, what did you mean exactly when you said ‘we will make our shit a rusk’? (A Greek expression meaning to make the best of a bad situation - ed)' (Father:) 'Would you just let me…cook?!'

August 2011

(Greek man one:) 'Oh my God! Another one who couldn’t make it under the occupation.' (Greek man two:) 'Let's hope not!' (Greek man three:) 'After the gas prices went up, these are the new taxis!'

September 2011

(Man one:) 'There’s smoke coming out of the chimneys.' (Man two:) 'Some of them are probably retiring.'

October 2011

(Radio): 'People of Greece! This is the BBC. In case you weren’t aware even the English are against you!'

November 2011

(On top of the box: 'IMF PACKAGE') 'At last we are no longer homeless!!' (On side of the box: 'Sponsored by the EU')

December 2011

(German soldier one:) 'So what are we actually going to do with the Greek civil servants, Herr Commandant?' (German soldier two:) 'Well, I have an idea…' ('PUBLIC SERVANT SOAP, BATH INSPECTOR FOAM BATH, INSPECTER SHAMPOO')
