Firth, Bale salvage British pride at Globes

Colin Firth and Christian Bale were the sole British winners at the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards. In a year dominated by American winners, Bale won the Best Supporting Actor gong for David O. Russell’s The Fighter and Firth added the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama to his already bulging kitty for Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech.

In his acceptance speech Firth said, “Getting through the mid stage of your life with your dignity and judgement in tact can be somewhat precarious and sometimes all you need a bit of gentle reassurance to keep on track. I don’t know if this qualifies as gentle reassurance, but right now this is all that stands between me and a Harley Davidson.(...)
