Exploring immigration across Europe

The Borderline Project was stopping last week in Seville on its way from France to Portugal. In charge of the coordination and carrying out of this social and cinematographic study on European immigration are NISI MASA – European Network of Young Cinema and FEST – International Youth Film Festival, in close collaboration with Guimarães – European Capital of Culture 2012.
Borderline is a multicultural project aimed at raising awareness on issues as immigration and European citizenship, as well as at bringing together European citizens and foreigners living in Europe, offering a new and positive view on immigration. Furthermore, it pursues the creation, development and strengthening of the European youth cinema network. The project, conceived as a journey between Paris and Guimarães, started the 10th of November at the outskirts of Paris, and is intended to finish next 1st of December upon arriving at Guimarães, in Portugal.
13 young European filmmakers, between the ages of 18 and 32, were selected for this project in order to live, sleep and create, during three weeks, in a two-level bus, with the final goal of producing a full-length film on the topic of immigration.
The bus will stay on the route between Paris and Guimarães, as a symbolic reminder of the route the Portuguese emigrants covered during the 60s and the 70s. During the journey, several stops will be made in order to look for the best stories, scenes and symbols to be used for the short-films. Today, they will be in Seville. Upon finishing the journey, the full-length film will be released at Guimarães, European Capital of Culture 2012. Promotion and distribution all across Europe will follow, in first place in the film festival circuit, and later also on television.
