The EUROVISIONI International Festival returns to Rome for its 22nd edition (October 20-24), and coincides with the Rome International Film Festival. The event will include debates on topics such as the European film and television market, the technological transformations making this possible and the cultural and financial transformations that it brings.

Experts, industry representatives and politicians from throughout Europe will meet on Monday for a conference on digital television "as vector of social cohesion or social fragmentation". The debate will then move to placement and the new European rules on audiovisual media services, with the accompanying risks and opportunities for the industry.

During the festival, a first-time Henry Ingberg Award for Cultural Diversity will be presented, named after one of the figures who has most fought for the development of the European audiovisual industry. There will also be an accompanying discussion on the state of art of the UNESCO Convention on Cultural Diversity with summaries by three ateliers on the role of national broadcasters in the global market, the ambitions and limits of transnational broadcasters and the role of the virtual community among the web and TV.

At the same time, the festival is offering a series of premieres of television programmes and films for European TV: from Germany’s Contergan by Adolf Winkelmann to Amos Gitai’s Plus tard, tu comprendras and José Luis Cuerda’s Los Girasoles Ciegos, Lets Go to the Movies by Polish filmmaker Michal Kwiecinski and Philip Martin’s Wallander, with Kenneth Branagh.
