From November 12-18, some 20 up-and-coming and established Swedish and Norwegian filmmakers will be in Paris as part of the brand new Cine Nordica Film Week at the Pantheon Cinema.

The event focusing on Swedish and Norwegian cinema was initiated by Maria Sjöberg, official Scandinavian scout in Paris for the Cannes Film Festival, and is organised in tight collaboration with the Swedish and Norwegian film institutes.

”We have mapped out the market in collaboration with the Swedish Trade Council and hope to be able to present a platform where new Swedish films reach French distributors and Swedish producers will establish contacts with their French colleagues,” said Patrick Andersson of the Swedish Film Institute.

“We liked the Nordic label and the fact that Cine Nordica wants to promote new films,” added Jan Erik Holst of the Norwegian Film Institute.

For Sjöberg, the idea was to give French audiences and professionals a global overview of what Sweden and Norway have in stock, the best of the latest films plus those produced over the last three years but rarely shown in France.

The eight Norwegian and 15 Swedish features on show are titles not yet licensed to France, such as the opening film Everlasting Moments, as well as those screening ahead of their official French release.

The latter include The Art of Negative Thinking [trailer] (opening November 26, Little Stone), Laban the Little Ghost (December 3, Les Films du Préau), Patrick Age 1.5 (recently sold to Swift Distribution) and the closing film Let the Right One In [trailer] (February 4, Chrysalis Film). All these films will be presented by their filmmakers.

Other highlights include a focus on the Swedish production house Plattform, Roy Andersson’s film and advertising works and an introduction to Ingmar Bergman’s masterpiece Wild Strawberries by French filmmaker Arnaud Desplechin. Sjöberg has already invited the Finns to join the Nordic fête in Paris in 2009.
