By Julie Kavanagh Photo by Davide Martinotti Today´s general strike in Belgium has seen transport ground to a standstill, but the European quarter of Brussels remains a hive of activity as the latest EU summit kicks off. Heads of State from across Europe have been arriving and are set for an afternoon (and most likely an evening!

) of discussion as they look to agree on new measures to respond to the crisis while encouraging growth.

The Summit is likely to see the approval of the European Stability Mechanism, a permanent bailout fund worth €500 billion. EU leaders are also expected to discuss measures to tackle youth unemployment and how to facilitate small and medium enterprises.

The Café Babel team are following the latest developments, and posting updates and reaction to the Summit as it happens.
