Swiss director Stefan Haupt’s A Song for Argyris has been nominated for the Erasmus EuroMedia Award. The prize – to be awarded on October 10 in Vienna in four categories – was created by the European Society for Education and Communication (ESEC) with the aim of encouraging an awareness of Europe as a shared cultural space and the collaboration and exchange of ideas in the field of education.

Released by Polyfilm after its Austrian première at the Filmcasino Wien, A Song for Argyris looks at the life of mathematician Argyris Sfountouris, who lost his parents at the age of four during the massacre carried out on June 10, 1944 by an SS division in the Greek village of Distomo. Brought up in Switzerland, where he was taken in as an orphan, throughout his life Sfountouris campaigned for peace and fought against forgetting.
